TRAVELING EXHIBITION PROSPECTUSDan Anderson: Black & White Photography The Fairfield Art Museum is pleased to announce availability of a traveling exhibition of photography by Dan Anderson. Anderson’s work expresses the quintessential essence of black and white photography. Following in the footsteps of Ansel Adams, whom Anderson briefly trained under, Anderson’s body of work speaks of his innate understanding of the expressive quality of black and white and the many nuances in between. The great French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson spoke of the “decisive moment” at which the perfect shot of the subject should be taken. The work of Anderson often shows this decisive moment - the moment when the natural light is just right, the moment when the mist in the distance is just right, the moment when the wind lifts and there is no movement in the landscape and when no other person intrudes in a grand architectural setting. These moments are his interpretations of the subject and coupled with his flawless darkroom techniques, we have a body of work that is a fine example of late 20th century black and white realistic photography. The photographs themselves transcend merely reporting the visual facts and go beyond to a realm of personal revelation. Anderson has traveled extensively; his subjects include images of the natural beauty of North America as well as Europe. He teaches photography at the Peninsula Art School in Door County, Wisconsin and every summer in Italy. His work is included in private collections around the world. This exhibition is comprised of 42 framed and matted photographs black & white silver prints. Accompanying the exhibit will be 50 catalogs per venue, labels, title board and text board.
