Chagall Moore and Matulay: Three Influential Modernists
July 29 – October 9, 2005

Chagall, Moore & Matulay: Three Influential Modernists' comprised the work of three visionary men who experienced revolution, world wars, and social upheaval. Marc Chagall, among the most eminent of 20th century modern artists, is recognized for his color lithography of dreamlike imagery. The Story of the Exodus, a portfolio consisting of 24 hand-colored lithographs is featured along with the work of two of his contemporaries, Abstract Symbolist Henry Moore and the 20th century illustrator Laszlo Matulay. Like Chagall, Moore is known for his lithographs and etchings and followed a Symbolist's search for beauty, having been known to return to familiar themes. Although much less known than his contemporaries, Laszlo Matulay's body of work represented in this exhibit encompasses his complex heritage and lifelong struggle to become a professional artist.

Selections from Tandem Press
October 14 – December 30, 2005

This exhibit will be a very exciting educational exhibit for the Fairfield in that it will explore the collaborative printmaking processes that take place at Tandem Press in Madison. The artists working with the master printmakers form an artistic enterprise the aim of which is to foster research, collaboration, experimentation and innovation in the field of printmaking. Learning tools will be included in this exhibit that will include handouts regarding processes, printmaking terms and a short film to entice viewers. We are working with Tandem Press and local printmakers to conduct a workshop where participants will be able to create their own prints.
