More of Moore: Thematic Expressions From the Work
of Henry Moore Offering selected works from the Museum's permanent collection of prints and maquettes by international artist and sculptor, Henry Moore, with a focus on his reoccurring themes that provided inspiration for his monumental sculpture. For our "Thursday Night at the Fairfield" program, a lecture entitled, "The Work of Henry Moore," will be given by art historian Charles Lyons on March 20, 2003 at 6:30. Their Place: Hogarth, Rowlandson & the Women They Created Eighteenth century satirical artists' William Hogarth and Thomas Rowlandson make a strong social commentary through their exaggeration of stereotypes in this exhibit which features 30 prints on loan from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Art Museum and curated by graduate students from UWM, Meahgan Callen and Liz Flaig. Fine: The Art of Cats This nationally touring exhibit uses a common subject, felines, to explore a wide range of artistic styles and mediums. Includes paintings and sculptures of both domestic and wild cats by some top-notch artists. This is the only Wisconsin showing of this special exhibit. Several great activities are planned beginning with a Community Day Opening Reception on Saturday, April 5th from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is free, cookies and punch will be served in the Newkirk Gallery. On Thursday, April 10th a Private Reception catered by Stone Harbor Resort is scheduled with music by Al Anderson. Plan to attend, the festivities start at 6:30 pm, free admission for members, nonmember pay $5.00 at the door. On Saturday, April 26, 2003 at 10 am we have a special speaker coming from New York City. Michael Brim, Director of the Cat Fanciers' Association in New York will be giving pointers on feline care. Admission is free for members and children under 14, nonmembers pay $5.00 at the door. May 4th through May 10th is Support the Door County Humane Society Week. Free admission to all the exhibitions when you bring cat or dog food donations for the Humane Society. Karen Christenson, Director of the Door County Humane Society will bring her professional expertise to a lecture planned for Thursday, May 8th at 6:30 pm. Studio Glass: A Survey of the Movement
A dazzling exhibit of more than 50 glass sculptures from internationally renowned american glass artists. Guest curator David J. 1st Annual Art of the Trees
Fundraiser On display from November 13 through November 30 “Art of the Trees,” a display sure to enhance the holiday season. “Art of the Trees” has involved a number of Door County artists and Friends of the Fairfield, who have volunteered to use their talent to create a holiday tree to be on display at The Fairfield and then auctioned off at a Cocktail Party on the evening of November 20, 2003. Tickets for the Auction/Cocktail Party are available for sale at the Fairfield for $25.00 per person. All ticket holders will have the opportunity to bid on and enjoy for many years to come, a one-of-a-kind, original faux art tree created by one of the areas finest artists.
